5 ways to stay grounded during pregnancy in 2025!

Calander for January 2025

It’s the beginning of the new year! You may be feeling many emotions. Excitement, determination, or maybe even anxiety or simply freaking out! Pregnancy can bring up a lot of things you didn’t know you felt. I’m supposed to do WHAT through my vagina?’ or ‘Will I EVER get a good night’s sleep again?’

So the big question is, how do you stay calm and grounded to have a positive experience? Let’s take a look at my top 5 tips for staying positive when things may feel out of control.

Tip 1: Nourish your body

Pregnancy cravings are NO joke. While you could eat your favorite craving meal (mine was nachos from BDUBS), Balance is your BFF.

  • ALWAYS keep a water bottle nearby. Yes, you may have to run to the bathroom every .5 seconds but keeping your body hydrated is super important! Don’t forget to add electrolytes! (your body will thank you!)

  • Add an extra veggie to your meals. Getting the essential nutrients your body needs to not only grow your baby but support the rest of your body’s functions!

  • Listen to your body! Here’s the thing, our society is dead set on the culture that you must be perfect and not gain a single pound above the “recommended” weight gain. While you shouldn’t binge eat every dessert every day (boundaries girl), Listening to what your body is craving and eating in a balanced way is key to optimal physical and mental health. Everyone’s body is different and stressing about how much you are eating and how it will affect your weight gain is NOT it for 2025. Don’t get me started on purposeful weight loss during pregnancy (insert eye-roll here)

Tip 2: Build your support network

You don’t have to do this alone, even if you feel like Wonder Woman in maternity leggings. Finding people you can trust and depend on can help ease any worries or stress that may be clogging up your mind can be a game changer!

  • Talk to your partner, a trusted friend, or a family member who gets it and can give you support when you need it - or at least distract you from your manic nesting with hilariously bad baby names.

  • Join a mom group or pregnancy forum. Sure, you might hear some wild advice and stories, but you will also find commodore and other moms who have been there, done that, or are in the thick of it with you! Interest in a mom group? Join one of our The Motherhood Circle events and connect with other moms in the Parkersburg/Marietta area!

  • And most importantly, consider a doula. We aren’t just birth experts; we’re your ultimate support—helping you navigate your questions, manage stress, and even cheering you on through the messy, beautiful moments of pregnancy and birth. A doula is your rock, your guide, and your ultimate hype person, all in one. Tip 3: Practice Self-compassion

You are growing a whole HUMAN! I think you deserve a bit more love and a lot less judgment. Whether this is your first, second, or last, you are a superhuman and you better start looking in the mirror and saying it to yourself!

  • Remember, rest is productive. So yes, that nap was absolutely necessary.

  • Celebrate the small stuff: “I drank water today and didn’t cry during that commercial. Winning!”

  • Be kind to yourself. There is a lot of pressure to be the perfect parent, remember that your best is enough! We can’t all eat 100% organic or buy those bamboo sleepers, that doesn’t mean you are a bad mom! Give yourself grace and love!

Tip 4: Create a Self-care routine

You’ve heard it a million times: “Take time for yourself.” But when you’re already getting up for your third bathroom trip of the night, that sounds about as realistic as getting a full 8 hours of sleep. Let’s keep it real and low-pressure:

  • Wash your face. And I mean, actually wash it—no splashing water on it while half asleep. Take a moment to enjoy that "fresh-faced" feeling. Even if it lasts a couple of seconds before the kids are screaming again.

  • Brush your hair. Yes, that mess of a bun you’ve been rocking since yesterday. It’s time to run a brush through it and remind yourself that, yes, there was a time when your hair looked neat and cute.

  • Stretch your body— Find time to find this important step in your routine, even if it’s while you’re still in bed! Doing prenatal yoga stretches or stretches from spinning babies is essential to your health!

  • Spend a few minutes on something just for you—whether it’s reading a chapter of that novel you swear you’ll finish someday, painting your nails, or listening to a podcast that inspires you.

The point? A little joy, even in small doses, goes a long way. Start small, and let that little pocket of “me time” grow.

Tip 5: Embracing Mindfulness

Mindfulness doesn’t mean sitting cross-legged in a field of wildflowers (let’s face it, that’s more of a Pinterest dream than a mom reality). It’s about staying present—even if "present" means lying on the floor while your toddler pretends to do your makeup

  • Pull out a notebook for some Gratitude journaling. Take a second to jot down three little things that made your day better. Did you get an extra 10 minutes of peace? Maybe you finished your nursery or you finally nailed a nap routine. And yes, if dessert was involved, it counts.

  • Finding moments of meditation. You don’t need a full-on meditation session. Just stop for 30 seconds—deep breath in, deep breath out.

  • Go for a stroll: No agenda. No time crunch. Just a walk to clear your head. Whether you’re pushing a stroller or just getting some fresh air, take in the sights—maybe even enjoy a few quiet moments to yourself.
